Season 17 will run for three weeks in the Z-A Battle Club.

Held Items: Allowed, but the same Held Item cannot be used more than once on a team

Pokémon from the specified Lumiose Pokédex and Hyperspace Pokédex ranges can participate, with the same Pokédex number limited to one Pokémon per team. Restricted Pokémon are excluded from the ruleset.

What Changes in Season 17?

The biggest change is the return to a more open ruleset after Season 16's special format.

Season 16 limited teams to Pokémon capable of Mega Evolution and allowed only Mega Stones as Held Items. Season 17 removes that special Mega Evolution requirement and allows Held Items again, although duplicate Held Items are not permitted.

This gives Season 17 a much broader Pokémon and item pool than the previous special season, while keeping the three-Pokémon, three-minute Ranked Battle format.

Seven Mega Stones Return as Rank-Up Rewards

Seven Mega Stones are available again as promotion rewards from Rank S through Rank Y:

The reward order follows the rank structure, with Blazikenite at Rank S and Greninjite at Rank Y.

These Mega Stones are particularly notable because they are being offered through Ranked Battle progression rather than as ordinary rewards from the game's regular content.

Players can hold only one of each Mega Stone. If a player already owns a particular stone, they cannot receive another copy from the Ranked Battle reward. The Mega Stones are also planned to be redistributed in future seasons.

How Ranked Battle Rewards Work

Ranked Battles have three separate reward categories:

• Battle Rewards: Rewards obtained after battles.
• Promotion Rewards: Rewards earned when reaching a new rank.
• Season Rewards: Rewards determined by the rank reached when the season ends.

The seven Mega Stones belong to the Promotion Rewards category.

Other promotion rewards during Season 17 include items such as Sport Balls, Mega Shards, Nuggets, and Exp. Candy, depending on the rank reached. End-of-season rewards include Gold Bottle Caps, Bottle Caps, Seeds of Mastery, Nuggets, and Big Nuggets for higher ranks.
