IconHow to Get Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z in Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC

Every trainer exploring the Mega Dimension DLC of Pokémon Legends: Z-A will eventually encounter a familiar challenge: adding the Porygon evolutionary line to their team. Whether you’re aiming to complete the Hyperspace Pokédex, build a powerhouse special attacker, or just love the quirky digital Normal-type family, knowing how to acquire Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z is essential.

While Porygon itself is relatively easy to find early on, its evolutions require a mix of exploration, mission progression, and strategic trade evolutions. Below, we break down every method to secure these fan-favorite Pokémon, step by step.

How to Get Porygon, Porygon2 & Porygon-Z | Pokémon Z-A

Quick Guide (Best Method by Goal)

If you just want the highlights:

Porygon: 3★ Hyperspace Wild Zones (Normal-type) – easiest early-game method.

Porygon2: Side Mission 167 (free evolution) or Upgrade trade evolution – ideal for players wanting a quick evolution without grinding.

Porygon-Z: Side Mission 167 (free Dubious Disc) or Dubious Disc trade evolution – best for players completing post-game content.
Most players will combine these methods, but your path depends on whether you prioritize speed, completion, or post-game exploration.

Porygon Line Acquisition in Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension

The Mega Dimension DLC introduces three main ways to obtain the Porygon family, each tailored to different playstyles:

  1. Hyperspace Wild Zones (ranging from 3★ to 5★)
  2. Side Mission 167: Porygon’s Polygon Count
  3. Trade evolutions with special held items

Each method supports both solo and co-op play, but the experience varies significantly in terms of time investment, difficulty, and progression rewards.

How to Get Porygon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Best For: Early-game players, Pokédex completionists, and anyone looking to start the evolutionary line quickly.

Porygon is the base form of the line, and it’s the easiest to find in the Mega Dimension. It spawns exclusively in 3★ Hyperspace Wild Zones with a Normal-type focus. These zones appear randomly across Lumiose City, but you can confirm a Porygon’s presence by checking the silhouette preview before entering the distortion.

What to Expect:

  • Low difficulty, high accessibility: 3★ zones are available early in the DLC, so you can start hunting Porygon as soon as Hyperspace Distortions unlock.
  • Respawn mechanics: Hyperspace Wild Zones reroll every time the day/night cycle changes. To speed this up, use a bench to manually advance time, resetting the pool of available zones until a Normal-type 3★ zone with Porygon appears.
  • Catch strategy: Porygon is a Normal-type with low base speed, so use quick balls or timer balls to increase your catch rate without wasting resources.

Pro Tip: If you’re struggling to find a Porygon silhouette, prioritize zones marked with the “Normal-type” tag – these have the highest spawn rate for Porygon, even if the silhouette isn’t immediately visible.

How to Get Porygon2 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Best For: Players looking to evolve Porygon without post-game grinding, or those wanting to unlock the full line via mission rewards.

Porygon evolves into Porygon2 when traded while holding an Upgrade. In the Mega Dimension, there are three ways to obtain this evolution: via Side Mission 167, via crafting and trading with an Upgrade, or via late-game 5★ Hyperspace zones.

Method 1: Side Mission 167 – Porygon’s Polygon Count (Easiest & Guaranteed)

This mission is the most straightforward way to get Porygon2, as it skips the need to find an Upgrade or trade with other players.

How to Unlock: The mission unlocks automatically after you begin Hyperspace Mission 9: Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No.5 Head to Bleu Sector 6 and speak with Trian, a trainer with a passion for digital Pokémon. He’ll ask to trade your Porygon for his – but there’s a twist.

During the trade, Trian’s Porygon will hold an Upgrade, which triggers the evolution into Porygon2 when it arrives on your end. You’ll keep the newly evolved Porygon2, and Trian will keep your original Porygon. This is a win-win: you get a guaranteed Porygon2, and you don’t need to grind for an Upgrade or find a trade partner.

Method 2: Trade Evolution with an Upgrade (DIY Approach)

If you prefer to evolve your own Porygon, you’ll need to find an Upgrade first. These rare trade items spawn in floating Poké Balls inside 4★ and 5★ Hyperspace Wild Zones. To boost your chances of finding one:

1. Craft a donut with Item Power: Special and Flavor Power (Sour) – this increases the drop rate of rare held items.

Skip the grind? We have genuine Upgrade, Dubious Disc, and other hard-to-find held items in stock for Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

2. Focus on 4★ zones if you’re mid-game, or 5★ zones once you reach the post-game for higher odds.

Once you have the Upgrade, attach it to your Porygon and initiate a trade. You can use the global trade code 0011 0011 (or 0137-0137) to find other players also trading Porygon holding Upgrades. When the trade completes, your Porygon will evolve into Porygon2 automatically.

Method 3: 5★ Hyperspace Wild Zones (Post-Game Spawn)

After beating the main story of the Mega Dimension, 5★ Hyperspace Wild Zones unlock. Normal-type 5★ zones have a chance to spawn fully evolved Porygon2 (and even Porygon-Z) directly. This is a great option for players who want to skip the evolution process entirely, but it requires late-game progression and luck with spawn rates.

Pro Tip: Complete Side Mission 167 first to get your free Porygon2, then use the 5★ zones to find extra copies for competitive or shiny hunting purposes.

How to Get Porygon-Z in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Best For: Post-game players, competitive battlers, and anyone wanting the final evolution of the line.

Porygon2 evolves into Porygon-Z when traded while holding a Dubious Disc. Like its pre-evolution, there are three ways to obtain this final form: via Side Mission 167, via crafting and trading with a Dubious Disc, or via late-game 5★ Hyperspace zones.

Method 1: Side Mission 167 – Porygon’s Polygon Count (Free Dubious Disc)

After obtaining your Porygon2 from Trian in the earlier part of the mission, the story continues. A new 1★ Unknown Hyperspace Zone will appear in the Bleu Sector 5 Underground. To enter it, use a low-level donut (higher-level donuts will skip this specific zone).

Inside the distortion, speak with Trian again, and he’ll reward you with a free Dubious Disc. This is the only guaranteed Dubious Disc in the game, so don’t miss it! Attach the Dubious Disc to your Porygon2, then initiate a trade with another player (local co-op or online). Use the trade code 0012-0012 (or 0233-0233) to find other players trading Porygon2 holding Dubious Discs. The trade will trigger the evolution into Porygon-Z.

Method 2: Trade Evolution with a Dubious Disc (DIY Approach)

If you’ve already completed Side Mission 167 or want extra Dubious Discs, you can find them in floating Poké Balls inside 4★ and 5★ Hyperspace Wild Zones. Use the same donut strategy as with the Upgrade: craft one with Item Power: Special and Flavor Power (Sour) to boost drop rates.

Once you have the Dubious Disc, attach it to your Porygon2 and trade it using the code above. This method is ideal for players who want multiple Porygon-Zs (e.g., for competitive builds or shiny hunting).

Method 3: 5★ Hyperspace Wild Zones (Post-Game Spawn)

Just like Porygon2, Porygon-Z can spawn directly in Normal-type 5★ Hyperspace zones in the post-game. While this skips the evolution process entirely, the spawn rate is very low, so you’ll likely need to spend a lot of time resetting zones to find one. It’s a great backup if you missed the free Dubious Disc from the mission, but not the most efficient method.

Pro Tip: Save your Master Ball for Porygon-Z if you find one in a 5★ zone – its low catch rate makes it one of the hardest Pokémon to catch in the DLC.

Which Method Should You Choose?

Your path to completing the Porygon line depends on your goals:

  • If you want to fill the Pokédex quickly: Start with the 3★ zone for Porygon, then complete Side Mission 167 for free Porygon2 and a Dubious Disc for Porygon-Z.
  • If you’re a competitive player: Use the free Dubious Disc from the mission to evolve a high-IV Porygon2, then use the 5★ zones to hunt for a shiny Porygon-Z with perfect stats.
  • If you prefer solo play: Stick to the mission rewards and 5★ zone spawns to avoid needing a trade partner.

No matter your playstyle, the Mega Dimension offers multiple ways to add these powerful digital Pokémon to your team. Whether you’re using them to dominate the Battle Tower or just to complete your collection, Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z are worth the effort to track down.
