IconPKMBuy - What are the exclusives and differences between Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will officially meet Pokémon fans on September 18, 2022. Players will have to choose between Scarlet and Violet, as both versions of Gen 9 have their own exclusive Pokémon. Since the series launched in 1998 with the Pokémon Red and Blue RPGs, there have been two versions in each region. To encourage trainers to interact with other players, each generation has exclusive Pokémon. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the Paldea game will bring back the long-running mechanics, with some changes.

Nintendo got a sneak peek at the Gen 9 Pokédex by debuting several new Paldean Pokémons, including Smoliv, Lechonk, and Pawmi, in June's Gen 9 Pokédex. The biggest highlight of the trailer, however, is the new legends Koraidon and Miraidon. The box mascot is confirmed to be a rideable ride that can swim, climb and fly. The role-playing game's first regional form also debuted in the trailer, where players got their first look at Paldean Wooper. In August, Game Freak announced the first exclusive Pokémon for Gen 9, including Armarouge & Ceruledge from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Let's take a look at the differences between the two versions.

Pokémon Scarlet Exclusive

Pokémon fans were surprised in July when a leaker claimed to have leaked key details about Scarlet and Violet. While rumors like this aren't usually taken seriously, the cryptic account was quickly proven accurate after confirming many user details in a Pokémon gift update. For example, the leaker uploaded screenshots of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Gym Leader a full month before some characters finally appeared in the August trailer.

So while Game Freak hasn't officially confirmed some details about the Gen 9 RPG, Paldea's exclusive Pokémon has been leaking online since early August. According to multiple leaks, Pokémon Scarlet will exclusively feature Pokémon Gold and Silver favorite tyrants. This edition also includes Stonjourner for Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Bronze for Diamonds and Pearls. Below is a list of Pokémon exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet.

However, Pokémon Violet will also include a second Pokémon Sword and Shield favorite, Eiscue, which is exclusive to the Violet Edition.

According to the infamous Gen 9 leaker, Scarlet and Violet will also include Legends from Gen 5 and Gen 2. Pokémon Crimson players will be able to catch Pokémon Gold and Silver Suicune, while Pokémon Violet trainers will be able to find Virizion, a member of the Sword of Justice trio from the Pokémon Black and White game. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Paradox Pokémon Leaked

While Game Freak has yet to confirm the Paradox Pokémon, the new variant was leaked online in June. Since then, several prominent leakers have reiterated that the new Paradox form will appear in Gen 9 and will include both ancient and future versions of the popular Pokémon.

Ancient Form Pokémon will be exclusive to Pokémon Scarlet, while Pokémon Violet will have Future Form. This variant has been compared to Ultra Beasts from Gen 7 Pokémon Sun and Moon, as each Paradox Pokémon will be considered a new entry in the Paldea Pokédex.

Scarlet and Violet Paradox version differences

Pokémon aren't the only things unique to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In the story of the 9th generation, the player will take on the role of a new student who has just enrolled at the oldest university in the Paldea area, located in the city of Mesagoza. The game begins with the school principal, Director Clavell, assigning students to a scavenger hunt across the area. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, academic institutions will have elements unique to the edition. Pokémon Scarlet players will enter the Naranja Academy, while Pokémon Violet users will enter the Uva Academy. So far, the differences seem to be mostly cosmetic, with school uniforms changing depending on the player's version of the game.

For the first time ever, Scarlet and Violet's Pokémon Professor will also be exclusive. Unlike previous generations, each version of the 9th generation will have a completely different professor. Pokémon Scarlet players will collaborate with Professor Sada, who is interested in researching and preserving ancient history. By contrast, Pokémon Violet players will get Professor Turo, who is more interested in looking to the future. As with universities, it's unclear how much different professors will change the game's story between the two versions of the game. However, based on differences in their personalities and motivations, the professors seem to have more influence on the storyline than in past games.

With the release dates of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet set for November 18, Nintendo may start showing off the rest of the new generation of Pokémon. While every Pokémon game has exclusive monsters, Game Freak has gone to great lengths to create more differences between the two versions of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet than the series has ever seen. With a handful of new exclusive Gen 9 Pokémon still to be revealed, it will be increasingly difficult for players to choose which version of the Paldea region they want to play.
