For the first time in Pokémon franchise history, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will feature three separate story events that players can complete in any order. One of the storylines revolves around the protagonist helping Arven, a 9th-generation competitor trying to collect Herba Mystica. Players will travel across the Paldea region in search of mysterious ingredients, but must battle giant Titan Pokémon that protect rare herbs.

The August Pokémon Scarlet and Violet gameplay trailer revealed that one of the game's titans is a new Paldea crab Pokémon named Klawf. According to Game Freak, the Gen 9 RPG will actually feature numerous Titan Pokémon that players will have to take down to complete the game's second campaign. Although similar to past mechanics, Giant Pokémon is a major improvement. In 2022's Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the game centers on creating what will eventually become the Sinnoh Pokédex. Throughout the story of the Hisui region, players are tasked with calming the Noble Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Angry Pokémon take on boss battles similar to the new Titan Pokémon in the upcoming Gen 9 RPG. In the story of the Hisui region, players are led into Noble Pokémon encounters to advance the main campaign.

Scarlet and Violet's Titan Pokémon are an evolution of this concept, as players now have to explore the Paldea map to find giant boss fights. Not only do the new designs make encounters more unpredictable, as players have to travel across entire regions to find them, but they're also a completely separate story campaign. Unlike Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Gen 9 game will also have a strong Pokémon League story. This means that Titans won't be as restricted as the Noble Pokémon in the Hisui region, as they are now additional encounters similar to Legendary Pokémon.

With Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's Terastal combat mechanics, trainers can change the type of their Pokémon, and gen 9 boss battles will be even more exciting with a more complex system. Game Freak has yet to reveal how many titans the new region will have, and whether there will be additional mechanics for combat. However, the fact that Giant Pokémon is now an extra storyline that has to be discovered has made it a huge improvement over Pokémon Legends: Nobles of Arceus.
