Pokemon Sword and Shield total sold more than 22 million copies
Earlier today, Nintendo released its financial report for the second quarter of 2021 as of September 30. With the sales of Nintendo Switch reaching 92.87 million units, the total sales of Pokémon Sword and Shield were 22.64 million copies.
This resulted in the sales of only 1.1 million copies of the latest mainline of the series, which surpassed the 23.73 million copies of the Pokémon Gold and Silver versions of the Game Boy Color. This is the second best-selling work in the series, only lagging behind the original Pokemon Red, Blue, and Green's 31.05 million copies.
At the end of the first quarter of 2021, the sales of Sword and Shield just exceeded 21 million copies, which means that the game's sales in each result period are still slightly more than 1 million copies. This makes it very easy for the eighth-generation titles to get Gold and Silver's lifetime total.
In addition, Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are still selling copies, adding more than 500,000 copies in total, from 13.28 million copies to 13.83 million copies. Since its launch in April, the new Pokémon Snap has also sold 2.19 million copies, although this does not include sales data in Japan.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the next works in the series, which will be released globally on Switch on November 19, followed by Pokémon Legends: Arceus on January 28, 2022.
